Substitutions and Additions
You can use other cuts of beef like sirloin steak, ground beef, ground turkey, ground chicken, lean beef cubes, or no meat at all.
Use crushed tomatoes instead of tomato sauce.
Add in some cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, or green chiles to spice it up a bit.
Use white onion, yellow onion, sweet onion, or red onion.
How to make 20 Minute Steak and Chili Recipe
Stovetop Chili Instructions
Step 1 – On a cutting board, dice the onion and cut the steak into bite-sized pieces. Trim off the fat, if desired.
Step 2 – Spray a Dutch oven with non-stick spray (or a light coating of oil). Cook and stir the steak and onions for about 5 minutes.

Step 3 – Add the tomato sauce, chili beans, garlic salt, chili powder, beer (optional), and cumin.

Step 4 – Simmer over medium-low heat for 10 minutes until heated through. Serve and enjoy with your favorite toppings.

Slow Cooker Chili Recipe with Steak Instructions
Step 1 – On a cutting board, dice the onion and cut the steak into bite-sized pieces. Trim off the fat, if desired.
Step 2 – In a 6-quart crockpot slow cooker, add the steak, onions, tomato sauce, chili beans, garlic salt, chili powder, beer, and cumin and stir.
