This 6 Ingredient Biscuits and Gravy Casserole has homemade sausage gravy and fluffy biscuits. This recipe uses canned flaky biscuits to make it even easier. It is great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. If you like spicy heat, add a cayenne pinch to the gravy. It has just 6 ingredients plus black pepper. This breakfast casserole recipe takes just 7 steps and is ready in about 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a 7x11 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
Brown the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat.
Drain the grease using a colander, if preferred, and return the cooked sausage to the pan.
Stir in the flour, butter, cream, thyme, and black pepper.
Once the butter is melted and stirred in, transfer the sausage mixture to the bottom of the casserole dish.
Cut the biscuits into quarters and place the biscuit pieces in an even layer on top of the casserole.
Bake the casserole, uncovered, until the biscuit topping is golden brown and cooked through about 15-20 minutes.
Notes
Swap out the ground breakfast sausage for ground beef, or use a different type of sausage such as ground turkey sausage or ground Italian sausage.
You can make this casserole the day before. Prepare the gravy the day before and place it in the prepared baking dish. Cover and refrigerate. In the morning, allow the gravy to sit on the counter for at least 30 minutes so that it comes to room temperature. Add the biscuit dough on top, and bake according to the recipe instructions starting at step 6.
Store leftover casserole in the fridge for 4-5 days in an airtight container.
To reheat the casserole: Cover the casserole loosely with foil. Place it in a 325-degree F oven for about 20 minutes, or until heated through.
To freeze this casserole: Allow the dish to cool to room temperature. Cover tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Before reheating, thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
