Substitutions and additions

You can add crushed potato chips or French’s Fried Onions to the top before baking. Mix 2 tablespoons of melted butter and 3/4 cup crushed potato chips or French’s Fried Onions and sprinkle on top of the casserole.

You can also add diced onions during step 3 if desired.

Try different cheeses like Monterey Jack, Swiss, or Pepper Jack cheese.

How to make 5 Ingredient Hash Brown Casserole

Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and spray a 9×9 baking dish with nonstick spray.

Step 2 – In a large bowl, combine the thawed shredded potatoes with 3 tablespoons of melted butter, salt, and pepper, blending well.

Step 3 – Add in the soup and sour cream, then the cheddar cheese, mixing everything well.

Step 4 – Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Optional – top with crushed potato chips or French’s Fried Onions.
