How to make 6 Ingredient Italian Breadsticks
For the breadsticks:
Step 1 – Place parchment paper on two large baking sheets.
Step 2 – Add the barely warm water, yeast, sugar, 3 tablespoons melted butter, and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer and stir together briefly.
Step 3 – Stir in 2 cups of flour into the yeast mixture and blend on low speed until well combined using the paddle attachment.
Step 4 – Switch to the dough hook attachment. Add 1 more cup of flour and let it knead for about 5 – 7 minutes.
Step 5 – Add some oil to the bowl, flipping the dough over once, to coat it.
Step 6 – Cover the bowl with a warm damp towel and set aside in a draft-free warm place to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Step 7 – Punch down the dough and transfer to a lightly floured surface. Divide dough by cutting it in half, then in half again.
Step 8 – Cut the 4 pieces into thirds to make 12 equal portions.
Step 9 – Using your hands, roll each piece of dough into 6 or 7-inch long rolls and place them on the prepared baking pans.
Step 10 – For the second rise, cover them with warm damp kitchen tea towels (or plastic wrap) and allow them to rise for about 30 – 45 minutes.
Step 11 – Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 12 – Bake breadsticks on the center rack for about 15 minutes. Move the pan to the top rack for the last few minutes to get a golden brown crust.
For the topping:
Step 1 – In a small bowl, stir together 2 tablespoons of melted butter, garlic powder, coarse salt, and oregano.
Step 2 – Using a pastry brush, spread the garlic butter on the warm baked bread sticks and serve warm.
