Texas French Toast

This simple Texas French Toast is easy and delicious, ready in 15 minutes. Thick-sliced bread is dipped in egg, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar, then fried until golden brown in butter. 

Top with pats of butter and maple syrup or your favorite toppings. This recipe makes a great breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner.

Butter and maple syrup are the most popular toppings. Jams and jellies are also great, or fresh fruit and powdered sugar. Have you tried mustard? It’s not my thing, but my husband and his family love it on French Toast.

How to make Texas French Toast:

Preheat a 16 inch electric skillet for medium low heat at 325 degrees F.

Whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt in a shallow bowl or dish big enough for bread to lie flat.

Add the butter to the skillet until melted.

Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, flipping them over to coat both sides, and place in the skillet.

If the skillet is big enough, place all of the coated bread slices in the pan and fry about 4 – 5 minutes per side. If the skillet isn’t big enough, fry the slices in batches but the total time for the recipe will increase.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick bread (Texas toast, or brioche, etc.)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 4 Tablespoons butter

Instructions
